Let me add one other detail if I may. At Mingo Point they have a water hose to rinse the salt off your kayak and gear before heading home.

There are two potential launch sites from Kiawah to paddle down to Capt Sams Inlet.
My book, Kayak Charleston: Trips Within an Hour of Charleston tells about launching from the pulloff by the Kiawah bridge.
The other launch site is Mingo Point. Mingo Point has ample parking and a beautiful ramp. It is on the right, about 500 yards after crossing over the Kiawah bridge. It has a sign. It does not cost to launch from Mingo Point, but it does cost $5 to park there. You must display a parking permit in your car.
Between Memorial Day and Labor Day there is a kayak rental place to the right of the parking lot where you can buy the parking pass. The people manning this site get there about 7:30 in the morning and open access to the parking lot at that time.
Outside of the summer season, there is no place available to buy the $5 parking pass in the Mingo Point facility. You must go into Kiawah proper, getting a temporary pass to go to the Nature Center to buy the $5 parking pass. However, the people I spoke to at Mingo Point had no idea if the gate to Mingo Point would be open. I have no idea how to confirm the gate to Mingo Point has been opened without calling the Nature Center in advance. Here is the number for the Nature Center: 843 768 6001.
Just wanted to let the Club know what I found out when we did the show and go a week ago.
If I go down to do a Kiawah paddle after the summer season, I'll drive by Mingo Point to see if the barrier is removed, but I expect that is a daily thing that happens.
Me..I always go to the throw in and don't worry about paying the $5.
