Many of you spend time on the water fishing, boating, paddling, or enjoying South Carolinaโs coast in other ways, and we need your help documenting abandoned crab traps. These traps still have their buoys but are clearly no longer being fished, often so heavily fouled that you canโt read the letters on the buoy anymore. When left in the water, they can become navigational hazards, damage important habitats, and continue trapping marine life. Your reports will help us map where these traps occur and inform future efforts related to marine debris along our coast. ๐
If you see an abandoned trap anywhere along the SC coast, please report it using the survey linked below. Turning on location services and including a photo helps us document it accurately. Even a single report makes a difference. When combined with others, it helps us identify patterns across the coast.
