Friends,
These are stressful times and I trust you, and those close to you, are getting the care and support you need. This time of year we are usually working in classrooms and leading field studies for Sullivans Island Elementary and over 20 other Lowcountry schools. Until we return to our usual routine, we are keeping our professional educators and interns employed to continue our mission. We are developing online environmental resources and working with our partners at the wildlife refuges and national forest to provide important support and deepen our expertise in the local ecosystems. You can learn more about our service at http://www.sccoastalfriends.org/.
I joined the Friends of Coastal South Carolina to support environmental education in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. It’s a privilege to serve over 20 schools in the Charleston-Georgetown area, providing free-of-charge high quality programs to our children. As a South Carolina Master Naturalist and a retired earth scientist, this organization is a great fit for me to serve our community as a volunteer educator and a member of the board of directors.
Please keep us in mind and, if you are able, support our efforts on May 5, Palmetto Giving Day. Donating on Palmetto Giving Day makes your gift go further because it will be matched: The Francis P. Bunnelle foundation, The Tamsberg Family Foundation and other generous donors have provided $13,000 in matching gifts. This means your gifts, up to $13,000, will be doubled (a $100 gift becomes $200; $250 becomes $500, etc). I will be sending out more information as we get closer, but you can preview this online event at https://www.palmettogivingday.org/.
Meantime, all the best.
Ken McDowell
