Hi all,
We have the Paddle from Blacks camp (1370 Blacks Camp Road, Cross, SC) coming up this Saturday, the 28th. I hope you can join me. Please plan to arrive at Blacks Camp by 9:30or earlier so you can be ready to launch by 9:45. There will be a $5 parking fee which you pay to the cashier in the restaurant and she will give you a hang tag for your vehicle. I am asking that all Paddlers be in kayaks of at least 14 ft with a skirt. We will be crossing open water and with winds out of the south there is potential for it to get a bit choppy as we will be at the North end of the lake. There is a sand bar a little over 2 miles from the landing. We will Paddle to the sand bar and stop if anyone wants a break before crossing the bay to the canal entrance. We will Paddle up the canal as far as we can go. (At most about 1.5 miles) and then return to the sandbar for a break and a swim before returning to Blacks where I plan to have some fried catfish. Bring a snack for on the water but save room for eating at Blacks...I would recommend a burger or the catfish. The total distance we will Paddle will be about 12 miles, with 3 miles being in the protection of the canal. As usual, wear your pfd, bring a whistle, plenty of water, sun lotion, a hat and a snack or two. I expect to get back to the landing about 2 or 3 pm. Let me know if you plan to be there so I can contact you if the weather turns sour on us and I have to cancel. Right now it is looking pretty good but it been pretty crazy lately!
