fyi: Anyone can paddle over to Ft Sumter. There are no restrictions. The fort just has to be open to go inside. This also goes to powerboats. Paddle over and land on the sandbar by the fort, then walk in. We've done it many times. The best launches are Sunrise Pk on James Island or the throw-in by Ft Moultry.

Looks like I stand corrected. Not being allowed in is a sad new rule. I assume the concessionaire that runs the ferry has something to do with it. I can't remember how many times I've paddled over. I'm really surprised that they even care for how litte business they might be losing. As from me none as I've only paid once in the 11 years I've gone over over and don't plan to in the future. I'm from Northern Virginia and getting into Manassas Battlefield Park is to simply pull into one of a number of lots and walking in. This is also NPS.
